I work mostly by hand, using traditional tools and techniques. My favourite joint is the hand-cut dovetail, and the 'houndstooth' dovetail (shown in the header above) in particular.
There are various traditional methods. My preference is to cut the joint straight to the line with the saw - with no allowance for corrective paring. This requires precision sawing, particularly when cutting the 'pins' to fit between the tails.
The joint is glued up without a trial fit as trial fits spoil good joints - the first fit is the best
